| One
person's bad-hair day is another's crowning glory. The
same can be said of hair salons: While some people prefer
a place with a pulse, others favor a more mellow vibe.
Modern and sleek or comfortable and homey? City slick or
suburban chic? With these considerations in mind, we
combed the Bay Area for the best selection of hair salons,
from the tried-and-true to the truly cutting edge.
Whatever your style, here are 15 places to update your do. |

Festoon
is a great mix of professionalism and fun: The open loft
space is progressive but not sterile, with high ceilings
and handmade wood cabinets and shelves, the staff is warm
and courteous, and the owner's dogs, Bill and Bai-lee, can
always be found power napping in the corner. Stylists
spend plenty of time with each customer, asking questions
and addressing their individual hair needs. (Runar, in
particular, is great at razor cuts and is also an expert
colorist.) Need a quick wind-down from a busy day? Try a
scalp and hair treatment, which will leave you both
mentally and physically invigorated. Or complete the
experience with one of Angela Jacoboni's relaxing
aromatherapy facials. - Caryn Marooney
