On Monday, October 14, Festoon, one of San Francisco's premier downtown salons, will make over twenty five unemployed young women with an aim to boosting their confidence and self-esteem as they begin job searches upon completing a local vocational training program.
Festoon Salon approached the Treasure Island Job Corps, one of the nation's largest and most successful job training institutions, to help the low-income women aged 16-24, many of whom are single mothers, take their first step toward a productive future by ensuring they present an attractive, professional appearance.
The makeover party, which will take place from 11am-4pm on October 14 at Festoon Salon on 9 Claude Lane in San Francisco, will offer both hair and cosmetic makeovers, with salon stylists volunteering their skills and time, and vendors such as Bumble and Bumble, Kerastase, and Peter Saridis of West Coast Beauty supply donating products and equipment to help the women maintain their new looks at home. Before and after photos and video will demonstrate their transformation.
This project is a creation of Festoon hairstylist Christina Lameraner, a Landmark Education Corporation leadership program participant. A Landmark coursework assignment was to create a project benefiting the community, and Lameraner designed the makeover day. " It's a perfect opportunity to integrate my skills as a stylist into a project that will bring inspiration and confidence to a group of young women dedicated to creating better lives for themselves and their children."
Festoon Salon began in Berkeley thirteen years ago. Owners John and Melissa Ryan have grown Festoon into two locations and over 40 employees, the most recent opening in ground floor downtown San Francisco location November 2001. Festoon is continuously ranked among the top 200 salons in the nation and featured in trade journals and national magazines.
